ParetoLogic was today awarded a spot on the PROFIT 200, in recognition of its incredible growth in the past five years.

PRLog (Press Release) – Jun 01, 2011 – ParetoLogic has been featured in the 23rd annual PROFIT 200 ranking of Canada’s Fastest-Growing Companies by PROFIT Magazine. Ranking Canada’s Fastest-Growing Companies by five-year revenue growth, the PROFIT 200 profiles the country’s most successful growth companies. Published in the Summer issue of PROFIT and online at PROFITguide.com, the PROFIT 200 is Canada’s largest annual celebration of entrepreneurial achievement.

Coming in at number 51 on the list, ParetoLogic proves that their user-centric business model is a sound one. “We’ve made some substantial developments over the past five years,” said Elton Pereira, Co-Founder, President, and CEO of ParetoLogic. “We went from just two programs to our current roster of nine, our technology advanced with new research, and we’ve continued to build our users’ trust. I’m pleased to see these achievement recognized by PROFIT 200.”

ParetoLogic’s notable revenue growth can be credited to their commitment to solving specific PC issues, and remaining user-focused. With each year bringing at least one new launch, ParetoLogic diversifies their offerings, while providing home PC users with the security and utility solutions they need. In consequence, ParetoLogic continues to expand and accrue new customers, as well as garner praise from organizations such as PROFIT.

“The PROFIT 200 companies are the innovative, high-growth enterprises Canada needs to compete on the global stage,” says Ian Portsmouth, Editor-in-Chief of PROFIT Magazine. “PROFIT is proud to celebrate their achievements and ambitions, and we encourage all businesspeople to learn more about the many ways they’ve come so far, so fast.”

ParetoLogic’s story in particular never fails to inspire. Founded by four brothers in Victoria in 2004, the startup was instantly successful with their first anti-spyware software launch, XoftSpySE. Though their software lineup has grown and changed, the inspiration remains the same: help customers fix and secure their PCs, no matter what their level of experience. “We ensure that every product is designed with the user in mind,” said Pereira. ”We’ve built our business around making our customers happy – that attitude has shown results from day one.”

ParetoLogic’s popular all-in-one software, PC Health Advisor, has been re-launched in nine additional languages, including Spanish, German, and other European languages.

PRLog (Press Release) – Apr 12, 2011 – Millions of non-English speakers now have access to PC Health Advisor, the all-in-one PC utility. Developed by ParetoLogic, the software combines some of the company’s top technology, to stop system errors, improve performance, and remove malware. All these features are now fully accessible in a total of 10 languages.

French, Italian, German, Spanish, Portuguese, Dutch, Danish, Norwegian, Swedish, and, of course, the original English round out PC Health Advisor’s supported languages. The additional dialects add dozens of countries and at least two continents to PC Health Advisor’s user base.

“The fact is, too many software developers make assumptions about their users and their preferred language,” said Barry Dodd, VP Business Operations at ParetoLogic. “We know that there are millions of non-English Windows users that need a solution to improve their PC, and we’re happy to provide that solution.”

Each element within the PC Health Advisor application was painstaking translated and reviewed for accuracy. Along with the program itself, product pages, shopping cart pages, and customer support were all created anew in each language.

“Due to the minor shifts in connotations, tone, and mood, translating these items required the utmost in care. We designed PC Health Advisor to make computer maintenance as easy as possible – these languages remove even more barriers between users and improving their PCs,” said Dodd.

The translated PC Health Advisor product information can be viewed by selecting the preferred language via a drop down menu on the PC Health Advisor product page. From the translated pages, users can download the software in the appropriate language.

Security and utility software developers ParetoLogic achieved their highest ever rankings on the Branham300, placing among the top three IT security companies in Canada.

PRLog (Press Release) – Apr 08, 2011 – For the third consecutive year, ParetoLogic has placed on the Branham300, the definitive ranking of Canada’s IT sector. The Victoria software company improved their standings across the board, claiming awards in three competitive categories. Last year saw new product launches from ParetoLogic and new developments in malware research, to which company founders attribute their growth.

ParetoLogic Branham300 Rankings:

• Top 10 IT Security Companies: 3

• Top 25 Software Companies: 11

• Top 250 Canadian ICT Companies: 65

“2010 was a very active year for ParetoLogic,” said Adrian Pereira, Chief Technology Officer and Co-Founder of ParetoLogic. “We released our all-in-one application, PC Health Advisor, which our customers have really embraced. We also continued to make advancements in the fields of online security and optimization.”

PC Health Advisor, launched in the spring of 2010, did much to define ParetoLogic’s growth over the past year. The all-in-one software utility combines some of ParetoLogic’s most successful security and utility products, and was ParetoLogic’s standout success of 2010 and into 2011. At the same time, ParetoLogic’s Spyware Analysis Team (SWAT) made significant inroads in the world of malware research.

“PC Health Advisor was a big part of our success in 2010, but it is not the only reason for our appearance on the Branham300,” said Pereira. “By systematically identifying and targeting new malware variants, our SWAT team has helped us make a name for ourselves in the security world. Not only do our customers benefit from our research, but the security industry as a whole benefits through our research sharing projects.”

ParetoLogic users benefit from the company’s research through regular program updates, and through integration with online scanning tools such as Virus Total. Industry professionals can get direct access to malware samples through the ParetoLogic URL Clearing House.

ParetoLogic attributes its 1386 percent revenue growth to consumer-focused business model

Attributes its 1386 percent revenue growth to consumer-focused business model.

ParetoLogic today announced that it ranked number 83 on Technology Fast 500™, Deloitte’s ranking of 500 of the fastest growing technology, media, telecommunications, life sciences and clean technology companies in North America. Rankings are based on percentage of fiscal year revenue growth during the period from 2005–2009. ParetoLogic grew a stunning 1386 percent during this period.

Don Wharton, ParetoLogic’s Co-founder and Chief Operating Officer, credits the company’s growth over the past five years to strong marketing channels and quality, user-friendly products. “In-depth market research ensures a healthy customer base for all our products. We create our software for all users, allowing us to serve customers who otherwise would be at the mercy of computer repair technicians, or who would simply have no solution at all.”

Technology Fast 500™ recognizes innovative companies that have broken down barriers to success and defied the odds with their outstanding five-year revenue growth.

“With its remarkable growth from 2005 to 2009, ParetoLogic has earned its position among the fastest growing technology, media, telecommunications, life sciences and clean technology companies in North America and deserves our congratulations,” said John Ruffolo, National Leader, Technology, Media & Telecommunications Industry Group, Deloitte Canada. “Deloitte is proud to honour ParetoLogic for this accomplishment.”

ParetoLogic previously ranked number 17 as a Technology Fast 50™ award winner earlier this year, among technology companies in Canada.

“This year has been particularly successful for ParetoLogic,” said Wharton. “We introduced our latest software program: the all-in-one utility PC Health Advisor, launched many program updates, and began several significant new projects. These awards are a welcome reflection of our growing base of satisfied users, and the dedicated work of our exceptional staff.”

Overall, Technology Fast 500™ award winners for 2010 had revenue growth ranging from 146 percent to 164,079 percent from 2005 to 2009, with an average growth of 2,361 percent.

Expanding product line includes security, anti-virus software

ParetoLogic is one of those success stories that starts with young entrepreneurs working out of a basement (think Bill Gates) who blast into business at an astonishing speed.

The Victoria company was named the 17th fastest-growing technology company in Canada in the Deloitte Technology Fast 50 Awards announced this week. ParetoLogic develops security and other types of software to help PC users at home.

Five years ago, revenues were $3.9 million — more than decent for a brand-new company operating out of Elton Pereira’s Gordon Head basement. Last year, revenues reached $88.4 million.

Pereira, president and chief executive, said yesterday the company’s goal is to “essentially build a global brand.”

Back in the first year, ParetoLogic had four founding family members and a few additional staff.

Now it has 145 employees, two locations, a subsidiary and plans for another offshoot next year.

The company was started by Pereira, brothers Adrian and Myron and brother-in-law Don Wharton.

Wharton is the chief operating officer, Adrian chief technical officer and Myron is in charge of sales and marketing.

ParetoLogic is about business and family. Father Julian Pereira showed his sons how to do business online — the company’s continuing focus. “He’s the one who kind of inspired us,” said Elton, 34.

The company’s initial product, XoftSpySE, was created to combat spyware, software that gathers information without the user being aware of it. ParetoLogic sold 350,000 applications in its first year. “We had instant cash flow from Day 1,” he said.

Today, ParetoLogic has seven millions customers world-wide and 155 million downloads of its software, Pereira said.

Software products include privacy controls for parents, data recovery and anti-virus technology. Products are designed to be simple to use, operate quickly and not take up much space in the computer’s system. ParetoLogic emphasizes customer support and service for average people at home, Elton said. “We are just trying to ensure that their PC experience is as positive as possible.”

Family members in the business and the staff are motivated and welcome challenges, he said. “They want to grow. They want to compete.”

RevenueWire, spun off from ParetoLogic three years ago, is an affiliate digital product network with 40 employees, Pereira said.

Coming up in the next year is a new business focusing on tracking any vulnerabilities in a business’s websites, Pereira said. The aim is to find and block any holes that hackers could use and then give the website customer a certified stamp for its order page, providing in turn, peace of mind to that firm’s customers with the aim of increasing sales.

ParetoLogic has collected several business honours. In June, it made Profit Magazine’s Profit 100 list, ranking 23rd among Canadian companies by comparing revenue growth between 2004 and 2009.

PRLog (Press Release) – Sep 23, 2010 – Hot on the heels of its Profit 100 ranking, ParetoLogic has claimed yet another honour in recognition of its rapid expansion. ParetoLogic came in at number 17 in the Deloitte Technology Fast 50TM, a ranking of the 50 fastest growing technology companies in Canada, based on the percentage of revenue growth over five years.

“The past five years have taken us from our nascence to a position of significant growth and development,” said Elton Pereira, ParetoLogic’s Cofounder, President, and CEO. “My thanks go to our staff, our supporters, and the tech community of Greater Victoria, but most of all to our customers, who have brought us to where we are today.”

ParetoLogic develops security and utility software for the home PC user. In the five year period judged by the Deloitte Technology Fast 50TM, the company has introduced over 10 different software products, expanded their staff three times over, and grown their revenues more than a dozen-fold. In that time they have garnered numerous awards from the Vancouver Island Advanced Technology Centre (VIATeC), from the Victoria Chamber of Commerce, the Branham300, the Profit Hot 50, and the Profit 100 among others, as well as industry recognition as a Microsoft Certified Partner.

To qualify for the Deloitte Technology Fast 50TM ranking, companies must have been in business for at least five years, have revenues of at least $5 million, be headquartered in Canada, own proprietary technology, and conduct research and development activities in Canada. A panel of industry experts evaluate and judge companies based on four key criteria: competitive advantage; size, growth, and market attractiveness; management effectiveness and organization; and financial performance.

“We are delighted to appear alongside such successful Canadian IT companies,” said Pereira. “Victoria has become the most significant tech hub of the west coast, and we are proud to represent Victoria on a national level and beyond.”

The recently launched Version 7.0 of ParetoLogic Anti-Virus PLUS provides home PC users with improved security, enhanced performance, and new features to make browsing the web a whole lot safer.

Victoria, B.C. September 16, 2010 – In the second quarter of 2010, viruses and other malware attempted to execute over 540 million infections globally, according to a recent report from SecureList. To protect their users from the rising tide of threats, security software company ParetoLogic has rolled out its latest defence against viruses, spyware, adware, and other malicious software. ParetoLogic Anti-Virus PLUS version 7 provides enhanced threat detection and removal and adds new features to improve the user’s experience. As well as redesigning the interface, developers also dramatically improved scan times and system resource footprint.

Version 7 of ParetoLogic Anti-Virus PLUS is notable for two significant technological advances. The first delivers enhanced rootkit removal. Rootkits act as “burrowing” malware, and entrench themselves so deep in a users system that they are some of the most difficult to remove.

“ParetoLogic Anti-Virus PLUS now gives users state-of-the-art protection against these dangerous and stubborn infections,” said Elton Pereira, Co-founder, President and CEO of ParetoLogic. “We know that infections are on the rise, and paired with heuristic detection, our software will keep people safer than ever.”

So-called heuristic detection is the most recent development in security software, and the second of ParetoLogic Anti-Virus PLUS 7′s advances. Rather than relying on a database of found and catalogued malware samples, heuristic detection is behavioural based.

“There are a large number of distinct varieties of malware, but their actual goals and methods of operation all follow a similar pattern,” explained Jean Taggart, Security Analyst at ParetoLogic. “Heuristic detection is able to recognize a suspicious file or process, even if that specific piece of malware was never programmatically analyzed, or examined by a malware researcher. This is achieved by looking at behaviour, or common traits.”

The ParetoLogic Anti-Virus PLUS update also adds Windows® 7 support and a sleek interface to match the popular new operating system. Additional software improvements resulted in shorter scan times, and a lighter system footprint. These upgrades allow users to scan their system without slowing down their other applications or tasks.

Security Researcher Mila Parkour has discovered a new zero-day exploit affecting Adobe Reader and Adobe Acrobat.

In her blog she posted some information about the file, which was sent as an email attachment.

Adobe has published a security bulletin for CVE-2010-2883 but hasn’t released a fix yet.

We verified the exploit on a fresh Windows 7 machine with the latest version of Adobe Reader. Upon opening the PDF document, a malicious file is downloaded.

We recommend users to be extremely careful when opening up email attachments as well as keeping their AV up-to-date with real time protection enabled.
