Attributes its 1386 percent revenue growth to consumer-focused business model.

ParetoLogic today announced that it ranked number 83 on Technology Fast 500™, Deloitte’s ranking of 500 of the fastest growing technology, media, telecommunications, life sciences and clean technology companies in North America. Rankings are based on percentage of fiscal year revenue growth during the period from 2005–2009. ParetoLogic grew a stunning 1386 percent during this period.

Don Wharton, ParetoLogic’s Co-founder and Chief Operating Officer, credits the company’s growth over the past five years to strong marketing channels and quality, user-friendly products. “In-depth market research ensures a healthy customer base for all our products. We create our software for all users, allowing us to serve customers who otherwise would be at the mercy of computer repair technicians, or who would simply have no solution at all.”

Technology Fast 500™ recognizes innovative companies that have broken down barriers to success and defied the odds with their outstanding five-year revenue growth.

ParetoLogic previously ranked number 17 as a Technology Fast 50™ award winner earlier this year, among technology companies in Canada.

“This year has been particularly successful for ParetoLogic,” said Wharton. “We introduced our latest software program: the all-in-one utility PC Health Advisor, launched many program updates, and began several significant new projects. These awards are a welcome reflection of our growing base of satisfied users, and the dedicated work of our exceptional staff.”

Overall, Technology Fast 500™ award winners for 2010 had revenue growth ranging from 146 percent to 164,079 percent from 2005 to 2009, with an average growth of 2,361 percent.

Victoria company eyes global branding

EltonParetoLogic is one of those success stories that starts with young entrepreneurs working out of a basement (think Bill Gates) who blast into business at an astonishing speed.

The Victoria company was named the 17th fastest-growing technology company in Canada in the Deloitte Technology Fast 50 Awards announced this week. ParetoLogic develops security and other types of software to help PC users at home.

Five years ago, revenues were $3.9 million — more than decent for a brand-new company operating out of Elton Pereira’s Gordon Head basement. Last year, revenues reached $88.4 million.

Pereira, president and chief executive, said yesterday the company’s goal is to “essentially build a global brand.”

Back in the first year, ParetoLogic had four founding family members and a few additional staff.

Now it has 145 employees, two locations, a subsidiary and plans for another offshoot next year.

The company was started by Pereira, brothers Adrian and Myron and brother-in-law Don Wharton.

Wharton is the chief operating officer, Adrian chief technical officer and Myron is in charge of sales and marketing.

ParetoLogic is about business and family. Father Julian Pereira showed his sons how to do business online — the company’s continuing focus. “He’s the one who kind of inspired us,” said Elton, 34.

The company’s initial product, XoftSpySE, was created to combat spyware, software that gathers information without the user being aware of it. ParetoLogic sold 350,000 applications in its first year. “We had instant cash flow from Day 1,” he said.

Today, ParetoLogic has seven millions customers world-wide and 155 million downloads of its software, Pereira said.

Software products include privacy controls for parents, data recovery and anti-virus technology. Products are designed to be simple to use, operate quickly and not take up much space in the computer’s system. ParetoLogic emphasizes customer support and service for average people at home, Elton said. “We are just trying to ensure that their PC experience is as positive as possible.”

Family members in the business and the staff are motivated and welcome challenges, he said. “They want to grow. They want to compete.”

RevenueWire, spun off from ParetoLogic three years ago, is an affiliate digital product network with 40 employees, Pereira said.

Coming up in the next year is a new business focusing on tracking any vulnerabilities in a business’s websites, Pereira said. The aim is to find and block any holes that hackers could use and then give the website customer a certified stamp for its order page, providing in turn, peace of mind to that firm’s customers with the aim of increasing sales.

ParetoLogic has collected several business honours. In June, it made Profit Magazine’s Profit 100 list, ranking 23rd among Canadian companies by comparing revenue growth between 2004 and 2009.

ParetoLogic develops security and utility software for the home PC user. In the five year period judged by the Deloitte Technology Fast 50TM, the company has introduced over 10 different software products, expanded their staff three times over, and grown their revenues more than a dozen-fold. In that time they have garnered numerous awards from the Vancouver Island Advanced Technology Centre (VIATeC), from the Victoria Chamber of Commerce, the Branham300, the Profit Hot 50, and the Profit 100 among others, as well as industry recognition as a Microsoft Certified Partner.

To qualify for the Deloitte Technology Fast 50TM ranking, companies must have been in business for at least five years, have revenues of at least $5 million, be headquartered in Canada, own proprietary technology, and conduct research and development activities in Canada. A panel of industry experts evaluate and judge companies based on four key criteria: competitive advantage; size, growth, and market attractiveness; management effectiveness and organization; and financial performance.

PRLog (Press Release) – Aug 24, 2010 – The efforts of ParetoLogic’s security researchers have been integrated into VirusTotal’s malicious website scanning service. ParetoLogic’s URL Clearing house is a vast database of websites known to harbour malware, phishing attacks, and other threats to visitors. Paired alongside TRUSTe, Google Safebrowsing, and other security resources, the ParetoLogic database now provides a further layer of defence for users scanning with the VirusTotal service.

“It’s a fairly straightforward operation,” explained Jerome Segura, Security Researcher at ParetoLogic. “The user enters a website address into the VirusTotal search box, and then VirusTotal queries multiple databases of sites that are known to be malicious. Ours is among these databases.” In addition to home users, VirusTotal is popular among universities, security companies, governments, and independent malware researchers.

Online security researchers form a tight-knit community, sharing information and URLs freely. “We all have a common goal,” said Segura. “As security researchers, we’re all on the same team.” To that end, ParetoLogic shares their malware samples with other security researchers, and their URL database is integrated not only with VirusTotal, but also URLVoid, a similar service.

ParetoLogic’s Security Team welcomes average users to join the fight to stop malware. If a user comes across a site that they believe is malicious, they can submit it to the ParetoLogic URL Clearing House: http://mdl.paretologic.com/. Users can also scan the database for sites to see if they are already known to be malicious.

Segura notes that even with VirusTotal’s URL scanner, users still need to protect themselves with a reliable security software product. “It’s not just a matter of avoiding sites that are known as dangerous, because legitimate sites can be compromised, and there are many other vectors – including email and peer-to-peer downloads.” Segura pointed to ParetoLogic’s range of security products to ensure complete protection.

ParetoLogic Raises Big Bucks for Big Bike

PRLog (Press Release)Jun 30, 2010 – This year’s Big Bike fundraiser for the Heart and Stroke Foundation raised almost $100,000 in Victoria, with over $10,000 of that coming from ParetoLogic. As the highest fundraiser in Greater Victoria, the software developers were awarded the Golden Gears award.

ParetoLogic more than doubled their initial team goal of $5,000 due to overwhelming support from the staff and management of ParetoLogic. “This charity has a personal connection for many of our staff,” said Adrian Pereira, Chief Technology Officer at ParetoLogic. “Heart disease and stroke are some of the biggest killers in Canada, and we’re proud to do what we can to help stop it.”

ParetoLogic on the Big Bike

Participants in the Big Bike gained pledges from the general public and then followed through by riding the Big Bike itself. The massive contraption accommodates 29 riders at a time (plus one driver) and toured around downtown Victoria.

“One of the most important factors to lower heart attack and stroke risk is awareness,” said Pereira. “The Big Bike can’t be ignored – especially when we’re on board – so we’re hoping a few more people take the time to check out the Heart and Stroke foundation, as well as consider their own health.”

As if the giant bike weren’t enough to draw attention, the team attracted crowds with noisemakers, shouts, and one oversized purple paper mache costume. All this helped ParetoLogic earn a Spirit Award for their enthusiasm and energy.

ParetoLogic’s Co-Founder, President and CEO, Elton Pereira, was the ParetoLogic team’s highest fundraiser, as well as the top earner in the region, generating almost $3,500. All funds raised by the Big Bike go directly to the Heart and Stroke Foundation and the life saving research they support.
